 The Beauty that is Mallorca

The Beauty that is Mallorca

MALLORCA is the largest and the capital of the Balearic archipelago (which includes world-famous Ibiza) splashed in the middle of the Mediterranean off Spain. Aside from Ibiza, other tourist spots in Mallorca are Alcudia, perfect for cycling; Cala d’Or, well known for its yearly jazz festival; the nature-inducing form of Tramuntana mountains in Deia, hiking haven Fornalutx; Inca (renown for its leather factories); Manacor (renown for its pearl processing); and Sineu, the market capital of the archipelago. Sineu is one interesting point. Every day is a market day in Mallorca and loads of agricultural produce such as almond, olive and olive oil are disembarked here.

Olive oil is said to be the healthiest cooking oil in the world because this is unsaturated fat. Besides, olive in Mallorca has flavor comparable to that of an almond. Other varieties are of the bitter and spicy kind. In short, all kinds of olives are available in Sineu. So this is what makes this little town in Mallorca booming. Aside from purchasing olives which can surely boost the town’s little economy, this factor has trickled down to the tourism industry. Olives are fermented through grinding and storing in tanks before they become olive oil. More visitors in a particular place naturally mean more tourism-related businesses. Even sidewalk vendors are part of the tourism industry.

Speaking of the tourism industry, the Mallorca government takes considerable care to the ecology. Thus, eco-tourism is the byword here. Every resort you can find in Sineu and to the rest of Mallorca, no matter how small they are, are inspected all throughout the year. Some even carry the prestigious blue flag accreditation of the European Union which means these resorts and tourism-related businesses are constantly inspected on their hygienic and safety practices. Mallorca’s beaches total to up 500 kilometers long. Along the way, you can find some nudist beaches although these are only for people who are nudists. So if one is ashamed being naked, better stay away from these beaches before guards will accost you. In fact, millions of tourists every year date along these beaches. There is an exception during winter though as Mallorca tends to get colder with temperatures dropping as far as -3 degrees Celsius.

If golf is your leisure forte, then there are lots of them such as the ones in Andratx and Canyamel. All of them have PGA-qualified instructors and for a meager amount, any tourist can easily learn golf for a couple of hours. During weekend evenings, these golf courses are transformed into concert parks where tourists love to sway, dance and headbang their way.

If you want to sleep in a decent hotel in Mallorca, then there are over 250 of them splashed across the island. All of them enjoy the amenities of a typical hotel and then there is one other factor. As with the beach resorts, these hotels are constantly inspected by the Spanish government to always conform to standards. After all, hotels are one of the places where tourists must be made comfortable.
